Dangers of the Internet Chat Room

This article is an article that every parent must read to help protect their children from the dangers of the internet chat rooms. Today, the internet chat room is more than just a chat room. The dangers are not quite obvious but the truth of it is that there are real dangers associated with the internet char rooms.
As I write this article, I have received not more than 10 invitations from many people to chat with. But one question I always ask myself is – How real are these people? How do I know that I am not chatting with a robot? Where is the location of the person I am chatting with? What is the ASL of the person I am chatting with? ASL is a popular abbreviation that is commonly used on internet Chat rooms to mean Age, Sex and Location of somebody who you have just met on a chat room.
Most time the information given out in the chat rooms are false. A male can become a female and a female become a male in a chat room. A 20 –year old boy can become a 40 – year old and vice versa. Your neighbor can be living in another country when you come to a chat room.
Few months ago, I went to a cyber cafe an entered into my favorite chat room. Coincidentally, I discovered that the person I have been chatting with for more than 40 minutes was the person next to me in the cyber cafe. Before this discovery, he told me that he lives outside my country and that he is a 21-year – old female. As the chat goes on and became more interesting, I began to develop some little affection for this “false girl”
How I discovered that I was chatting with a boy in the same room with me? I invited the “false girl” for a voice chat. Now when he talked, it was like an echo in the room. I looked back only to discover that the person I have been chatting with is a small 14-year-old boy who is wasting his time on the internet chat room.
